Obereggen snow park and halfpipe, Dolomites, South Tyrol

Flying high in the Dolomites

Ski Center Latemar was one of the first ski areas to believe in snowboarding. As a matter of fact, it purchased a pipe designer as long ago as 1997. A pipe was carefully shaped and maintained three times a week. Since then, Obereggen expert snowcat operators have made one every winter season.
The pipe is located next to the Toler piste; you can see it on the left hand side as you ski downhill. It is made entirely of snow (including artificial snow) and measures approximately 80m in length, 20m in width and 3.5m in height. Usually, it is opened just before Christmas.

The park is located on the Obereggen piste, which is equipped with a chairlift nearing the same name. Every first or second weekend in January a party is organised to mark the opening of the park. Admittedly, it is not huge, but it is certainly well kept. There are 3-4 kicks depending upon the period. The largest measures 15 metres and includes a steep landing area. There are two 4m twin tube rails, a triple tube and a box. The park, as well as the pipe, is serviced by means of a powerful programmed snow making system.

Boards
in white gold. Carving loops down the runs, jumping into the air, making the snow fly, feeling the small snow cry-stals tickle your skin.
Mega sound in your eyes. The peaks of the Dolomites right in front of you. The white rail under your board. Laughing and having fun. Enjoy life.

The scene is meeting for the events and every Monday night for the big "Night Show in Obereggen" with the best freestylers in the area.

Nothing is impossible for those who have decided to defy the laws of gravity. Especially if you can count on an incredible 80-meter half-pipe in snow, over 30 different types of structures, on easy and medium lines of tables in a sequence. For over 15 years the Obereggen Snow Park offers everyone, both beginners and experts, not only the possibility to put yourself to the test, but also to improve your technique and admire snowboard and twin-tip champions during the season's many contests. The shapers Thomas Hagen and Jonathan Cavani take care of the snow park with the snow groomers of the Obereggen company as well as with a lot of hard manual work.
